The Washdown Separator System is designed for vehicle wash bays, car wash facilities and commercial cleaning areas where wastewater discharges directly into a foul drainage system connected to a municipal treatment works. These systems provide effective separation of silt and contaminants before wastewater enters the sewer network, helping to protect downstream infrastructure and maintain efficient drainage performance.

Unlike surface water runoff, wastewater generated from washdown operations often contains detergents, soaps and emulsifying agents that disperse oils within the water. For this reason, wastewater from vehicle cleaning and washdown activities must not be discharged into surface water drainage systems and should instead be directed to a suitable foul sewer connection.

Environment Agency PPG3 guidelines recommend that separators are fitted with a reliable monitoring system capable of providing both visual and audible warnings when excessive levels are reached.
